| A 'domain
name' locates an organization or other entity on
the Internet. For example, yourname.com, might be
desirable to help customers locate you more
easily online. It also allows you to have
relevant email addresses. You might choose
'johnsmith.com' and have email addresses like
info@johnsmith.com, or whatever you choose. This
helps your customers recall and relay your email
and website addresses to others, and gives you
complete control over your web presence. |
Domain
names must be available - not previously spoken
for - and must be registered before activating
them. The organization responsible for
maintaining the master registry is called ICANN,
with any of dozens of companies acting as
registrars and administering the process. There
is an annual fee to register it and an annual fee
to renew it each year. We'll look after all the
registration and setup details for you, or you
can register right away using the search form to
the right. |
